Misuse Of The Word Premise

In logic, the premise is the basic statement upon whose truth an argument is based. It is not now, nor has it ever been the singular of premises. A premises IS a building, a premise IS NOT a building. More here.

The Fire Service, along with others including the Police, have started using the term premise to describe a building. Please stop it.

The belief that the word premise can be used to describe a premises is based on a false premise that premise is the singular of premises. Pass it on.
